Football and sports are a part of our family!  Today we got to attend Kennesaw State University’s final regular season game, where we came out Big South Champions!  What a fun time and history was made!  This football team is only 3 years old, though the college, now university, has been around much longer.  Matt and I are both alumni of KSU!  We have loved being a part of it from the beginning!

I am a competitive person by nature.  My mother says it has been in me since I was small.  If I could beat my big sister, it was awesome!  If I couldn’t, it was because I was younger and needed to work to get better.  I always wanted to keep up with her and do what she could do! This part of my personality has served me quite well during my years. I grew up and fell in love with dance and worked hard to become a part of our studios Performing Arts group. In high school our cheerleading squad made it to the NCA State Championship. While in college I began teaching and choreographing for studios with competitive dance groups.  And I am not going to even sugar coat it, I like to win!!!  I like being first place.  The best of the best.  I love when hard work and determination pay off. I like that there are winners and losers. I think participation trophies are silly.  I have taught our kids that there will be winners and losers all throughout their lives.  They better learn quickly how to be good sports and not sore losers. If they don’t like losing, then they need to put in more effort and work harder. And if you do lose, learn from it and keep trying. They have to take responsibility for their part. Sometimes, you are only competing with yourself.

God promises to give us the strength, and endurance to achieve our goals. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,” Hebrews 12:1

He tells us not to lose heart and be discouraged. “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, yet our inner self is being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:1

He tells us that we will win if we do not give up!  “Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest, if we do not give up.” Galations 6:9

What ever you are struggling with, know that God promises to sustain you through it and will hold you up.  He is walking beside you in this race of life everyday.  The harvest takes time.  Do not become overwhelmed.  Focus on Him and He will reward you with the prize of eternal life.

Laurel spent 8 months caring for her first husband after being diagnosed with cancer in 2010. He passed away at 33, leaving behind a daughter of 7 and 5 year old twin boys. After sowing millions of tears, Laurel sought out God daily and began to plan for a life of being a single mother, but ready to raise their children in faith, hope and love. God gave her more than she could have ever imagined when she brought Matt into her life, along with his 2 children. He was recently divorced and the providence of God had been leading up to this life for more than 20 years! Now Laurel is reaping joy with Matt and their 5 beautiful children. Thanks be to God for all the beauty created from the ashes of death and divorce.
