A Day Full of Love

Happy Valentine’s Day friends! I hope today you were loved and were able to share love with others. I always like to do little treats for my family. Some years we do a fancy dinner, some cards and candy, sometimes a little spending money. Matt and I never to big romantic gestures for Valentine’s Day. We like to say everyday together is Valentine’s Day! I know we are super cheesy! HA!! Today we did something different, we both love to go to antique stores and hunt for treasures. It is something I have always loved, it brings me great joy that he loves it too. I love that we share this together. Today we were on the hunt for some nick knacks for a shelf that was from his parents house. We just wanted to fill the shelves with things we picked together. It’s part of the fun of combining homes. We go through items and decide what to keep, what to go and what we both love. It has taken us almost 8 years to get here, but as many of you know, when you own a home, there are always projects and things that are necessary for upkeep. Nick knacks are not a necessity, but they are fun. I like to see the items we pick out together, these pieces remind me of trips we have taken, shopping excursions and gifts we have gotten. These little items fill me with a little bit of love when I look at them.

Love comes in many different forms. The love we have for our spouses is a beautiful kind of love. The love we have for our children is another beautiful kind of love, but it is a different kind of love. When my babies were born, it was the first time I truly understood how God loved us. His love is unconditional. My love for our kids is unconditional too! I constantly am reminding myself that God loves me no matter what. When my kids mess up, or fail, I don’t stop loving them, not matter how big the problem or mistake is. God loves us like that too. It doesn’t matter how big we fail, how badly we mess up. He will love us through all of it. His love never fails us.

We ended our night with pizza and a roaring fire, and about to watch some TV together. I know, I know, pizza isn’t really a healthy choice, but we are aiming for moderation. A little here and there. Tomorrow it’s back to veggies! God is Love, his mercies never fail us. I pray today that you know how much you are loved.

1 John 4:8 “Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

Laurel spent 8 months caring for her first husband after being diagnosed with cancer in 2010. He passed away at 33, leaving behind a daughter of 7 and 5 year old twin boys. After sowing millions of tears, Laurel sought out God daily and began to plan for a life of being a single mother, but ready to raise their children in faith, hope and love. God gave her more than she could have ever imagined when she brought Matt into her life, along with his 2 children. He was recently divorced and the providence of God had been leading up to this life for more than 20 years! Now Laurel is reaping joy with Matt and their 5 beautiful children. Thanks be to God for all the beauty created from the ashes of death and divorce.
