A Show of Love

Today was such fun. Celebrated the twins and the family (those who could come) showed up to show them some love. They showed love through hugs, gifts and just by showing up! Tonight the cousins are sleeping over and the video gaming is on! The best part of having cousins close by that you have grown up with, is they can be your best friends. It brings my heart all the joy to have my nephews here. One of my nephews sat and watched the UNC vs Duke basketball game! Go Heels! He was pulling for Duke. I’m not sure why but my sister, brother in law and nephews like Duke. Growing up in North Carolina, you pick a team. Clearly she and I picked ours many years ago and have stuck with them. He loves to sit and watch sports with Matt and I. It is another way we show love to him. I enjoyed an evening of taunting him with all the fun Carolina sayings I learned as a child. He was not amused. (Okay, he was, we joke like this all the time!) Carolina won! So I got to harass him some more. But he was a good sport. We were showing each other some love! As a whole, most of our family is sarcastic, and we enjoy joking around with one another. If we pick on you, we love you! God shows us love in all sorts of ways. A lot of the time we are too distracted to notice it. It can be a beautiful sunset, flowers, birds, rivers or streams, snow, and many other parts of nature. It can also be in friends and family. There are many places He shows us love, do you see them? His creation is all glorious. We are his creation, therefore we are glorious.

How did you show yourself some love today? I showed myself love by cheating a bit on my healthy choices. I made monkey bread for breakfast, it’s a family favorite! Ty requested spaghetti for dinner, so I indulged. Matt was good and had spaghetti squash! I just wanted the real deal and allowed myself a nice full bowl of it. But thankfully with 6 teenage boys in the house, there wasn’t any garlic bread left, so I didn’t eat any of that! Hahaha!!! Tonight, I am enjoying a glass of wine by the fire and we are about to watch a movie. I will get back on track tomorrow, but allowed some indulgences today while celebrating my boys! Plus I’m celebrating myself tonight…I survived 15 years with twin boys!!! It’s all about grace and balance. You are glorious! Happy Saturday! Show yourself some love!

Laurel spent 8 months caring for her first husband after being diagnosed with cancer in 2010. He passed away at 33, leaving behind a daughter of 7 and 5 year old twin boys. After sowing millions of tears, Laurel sought out God daily and began to plan for a life of being a single mother, but ready to raise their children in faith, hope and love. God gave her more than she could have ever imagined when she brought Matt into her life, along with his 2 children. He was recently divorced and the providence of God had been leading up to this life for more than 20 years! Now Laurel is reaping joy with Matt and their 5 beautiful children. Thanks be to God for all the beauty created from the ashes of death and divorce.
